Kamakura Daibutsu (Giant Buddha)

The giant bronze buddha statue at Kamakura

This is the giant bronze Buddha statue at Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan.  This ancient statue has survived numerous natural disasters since it was cast in 1252, including  tsunami and the great Kanto earthquake of 1923; unlike the temple buildings that once housed it.  Less than one hour by train from Tokyo, Kamakura is the best day trip close to Japan’s capital city.  A full blog including many more pictures is here.
